Nicola Waldron is a marine and coastal policy leader and underwater photographer working at the intersection of science, strategy, and storytelling.
She has over 20 years’ experience in translating science into real-world policy, legislation, and action, helping shape how ocean and coastal environments are protected and used. Nicola has led major initiatives within government, including the co-design and implementation of Victoria’s first marine spatial planning framework.
Beneath the surface, her second practice unfolds.
As an underwater photographer, Nicola captures the ocean’s raw beauty and vulnerability, creating powerful visual narratives that connect people to places they may never otherwise see. Her imagery complements her policy work, translating awareness into action.
Nicola's experience includes advising government, working with boards, community engagement, and remote fieldwork in Antarctica, the Asia-Pacific and Europe, always anchored by a lifelong connection to the ocean.
Nicola holds a Master of Applied Science in Coastal Management, a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Marine Biology, and a Graduate Certificate in Public Sector Management.
